Frequently asked questions
Answers to questions we receive from prospective clients about our services, process, and firm.
Is LegalTrace a GPS tracking service, detective agency, or a firm that guarantees legal outcomes?
No — and we understand the confusion. The name LegalTrace refers to the documented trail that disciplined counsel leaves behind: every piece of advice traceable to facts, authority, and commercial reasoning. We are a Singapore law practice providing corporate, commercial, regulatory, employment, intellectual property, dispute resolution, and private client legal services. We are not a GPS or vehicle tracking company, a private detective or investigation agency, or a marketing or creative agency of any kind.
Furthermore, LegalTrace does not guarantee specific legal outcomes. No responsible law practice can promise that a court will rule in your favour, that a regulator will accept your response, or that a negotiation will produce a particular result. Legal outcomes depend on the specific facts of each matter, applicable law, evidentiary strength, and the discretion of judges, tribunals, and counterparties. We provide documented counsel and advocacy — not promises we cannot keep.
What does "The Docket Chamber" mean?
The Docket Chamber is our name for the counsel room where client matters are opened, tracked, and resolved. In court practice, a docket is the formal record of proceedings — dates, filings, orders, and appearances. We apply that same discipline to private counsel: every matter enters our board with a reference number, assigned counsel lead, deadline calendar, and a documented trail of advice memoranda, drafts, and correspondence.
The chamber is not a branding exercise. It describes how we actually work — with the rigour that boards, investors, and courts expect when they ask how a legal position was reached.
How do I engage LegalTrace for a legal matter?
Begin by submitting an enquiry through our contact form or calling us during office hours (Mon–Fri, 09:00–18:00 SGT). A counsel lead will review your message and arrange an initial consultation — in person at our Robinson Road office or via secure video.
During the consultation, we assess the factual matrix, identify the legal issues, and discuss scope and fees. If we can assist and you wish to proceed, we issue a client engagement letter confirming the scope, fee structure, and counsel lead assignment. No solicitor-client relationship exists until that letter is signed.
What are your fees and billing practices?
We provide transparent fee estimates before substantive work begins. Standard matters — incorporations, contract reviews, trade mark filings — may be offered on a fixed-fee basis where scope is clearly defined. Complex or contested matters are billed at hourly rates disclosed in the engagement letter, with regular billing summaries provided throughout.
Initial consultations are charged at a disclosed rate (from SGD 350). We do not charge for responding to brief enquiries that do not require substantive legal analysis. All fees are quoted in Singapore dollars and subject to GST where applicable.
How quickly will you respond to my enquiry?
We aim to respond to all website enquiries and voicemails within one business day during office hours. Urgent matters — such as impending court deadlines or regulatory response windows — should be flagged in your message so we can prioritise accordingly. For genuine emergencies outside office hours, leave a detailed voicemail and we will assess urgency on the next business morning.
Do you handle matters outside Singapore?
Our primary practice is Singapore law. We advise on cross-border matters where Singapore law applies or where Singapore entities are involved — for example, joint ventures with foreign partners, MAS-regulated activities with regional scope, or contracts governed by Singapore law. For matters requiring foreign law advice, we coordinate with trusted counsel in the relevant jurisdiction rather than practising outside our admission.
Is my communication with LegalTrace confidential?
Communications with our firm in the context of seeking or receiving legal advice are protected by legal professional privilege, subject to applicable law and the facts of your matter. We handle all client data in accordance with the PDPA and our Privacy Policy. Internal access to matter files is restricted to assigned counsel and support staff with a documented need to know.
